On February 26, 2026, as part of the implementation of Ukraine’s largest Erasmus+ project, DigiUni (“Digital University – Open Ukrainian Initiative”), an orientation meeting was held with the authors and developers of innovative educational content. Head of the Department of Information Technologies, Anna Nenia, participated in the event as one of the trainers representing Sumy State University.

The meeting brought together over 40 leading academic staff members from all university faculties, marking the project’s transition to the active training phase. Anna Nenia, alongside other project trainers – Yurii Zuban, Director of the Organizational and Methodological Centre for E-Learning Technologies, and Oksana Shovkoplyas, Head of the Department of Computer Sciences – presented the strategic vision and practical preparatory steps for course development to the participants.

During the meeting, participants focused on the mission of the DigiUni initiative, which aims to preserve and develop higher education under martial law and during the post-war recovery period. The trainers also presented algorithms for creating digital learning materials based on a methodology developed with significant input from Sumy State University. Additionally, the stages of project implementation and quality criteria for open educational resources, which will become part of the national platform, were discussed in detail.

The Department of Information Technologies is represented in the project not only at the trainer level but also among the authors. The following department members will undergo the training:

• Volodymyr Nahornyi, Associate Professor of the IT Department, who will design the “Mobile Device Programming” course;
• Viktoriia Antypenko, Associate Professor of the IT Department, who will update the “IT Project Management” course.

This event marked the first intra-university step in preparing the development teams. The department’s faculty will begin the creation of their innovative courses upon completing the intensive training phase in May of this year.

On February 13, 2025, a graduation ceremony for Master’s degree students took place at the Faculty of Electronics and Information Technologies. Graduates of the Department of Information Technologies studying under the “Information Technologies of Design” professional program joined the event. This day marked the culmination of persistent work, studies, and professional growth for our students.

The official ceremony was opened by the First Vice-Rector Inna SHKOLNYK and the Dean of the Faculty Yuriy VOLK. The Head of the Department of Information Technologies, Anna NENIA, congratulated the department’s graduates, wishing them professional success, engaging projects, and the achievement of their goals.

The official part transitioned into an informal networking session. During the coffee break, graduates had the opportunity to chat with the Head of the Department, the Dean, and the faculty`s command. In a friendly atmosphere, they discussed future career plans, prospects for the IT industry’s development, and reminisced about their student years.

We are pleased to announce that in the upcoming academic year the Department of Information Technologies will launch a new certificate program entitled “Design and Development of Websites.”

This certificate program is available to students of all specialties at Sumy State University, except for those enrolled in the field F(12) Information Technology. The program is offered within the elective courses of the General Education Catalog.

The aim of the program is to train specialists capable of designing user-friendly interfaces and developing websites using markup languages, programming languages, and content management systems based on modern technology stacks (including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, WordPress, Figma, and Canva).

The certificate program includes the following courses:

• Website Design
• Introduction to UX/UI Design
• Website Development and Promotion (Basic Course)
• Website Development and Promotion (Advanced Course)

It is important to follow this sequence of courses, as it ensures the gradual development of professional competencies — from mastering fundamental theoretical concepts to acquiring practical skills in implementing real-world projects.

Upon successful completion of all four courses in the specified order, participants will be awarded the micro-qualification “Frontend Developer” and receive an official certificate.

On January 23, 2026, the staff of the Faculty of Electronics and Information Technologies attended the annual report presentation by the Dean of the Faculty, Yuriy VOLK, regarding the main results of the faculty’s work in 2025. This year, the ElIT Awards 2026 was established at the faculty to recognize the contributions of scientific and pedagogical staff to the development of the faculty and the university.

In the “Visionary of the Year” nomination, Yuliia PARFENENKO, PhD, Associate Professor of the Department of Information Technologies and Deputy Head of the Department for Research, was awarded for her significant contribution to the development of young scientists.

Yuliia Viktorivna is a talented scientist and lecturer. Her research interests encompass decision support systems, data mining, and information technologies for energy conservation. She is a co-author of textbooks, numerous scientific papers, and methodological developments, and actively participates in research projects, successfully combining science with teaching modern disciplines. Under Yuliia Viktorivna’s supervision, two PhD dissertations have been defended, and three aspirants are currently undergoing training.

This award is a natural recognition of persistent work, high professionalism, and dedication to educating a new generation of researchers. Yuliia Viktorivna’s active scientific activity, mentorship support, and ability to spark interest in science become a powerful impulse for students and postgraduates.
