Scientific work

The research activities of the Department of Information Technology staff are carried out within the existing scientific groups and directions:

  1. Intelligent Decision Support Systems: intelligent systems for proactive management of energy infrastructure under risk and uncertainty, decision support systems for the implementation of renewable energy sources, intelligent information technologies for forecasting vibrations in nature and various technical systems, decision support systems in medicine, including the development of new methods for processing unstructured medical data, development of decision support systems in medical diagnostics.

  1. Development and implementation of automated systems for various purposes, methods of analysis, quality assessment, and optimization of human-machine systems, intelligent technologies for ergonomic support of human-machine interaction in computer systems.

Faculty members of the department publish their research findings at international and All-Ukrainian conferences and seminars, as well as in professional publications in Ukraine and internationally peer-reviewed journals indexed by Scopus and Web of Science databases. Associate Professor V. Shendryk serves as a member of the editorial board of the International Journal of Green Computing (IJGC), published by IGI Global in the USA.

Students pursuing the educational program “Information Technology Design” actively engage in the department’s research work and work under the guidance of faculty members on research topics, carrying out bachelor’s and master’s theses.

The department involves graduate students in conducting state-funded research and development projects using the funds of Sumy State University and commissioned by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine:

The department annually holds sectional meetings of the scientific and practical conference for professors, staff, postgraduates, and students in the fields of “Informatics, Mathematics, and Automation,” where the main results of the department’s research work with students are presented. In terms of the number of awards received at the All-Ukrainian competitions of student scientific works, the specialty 122 “Computer Science,” including the educational program “Information Technology Design,” holds leading positions among the specialties of the university. Meanwhile, Sumy State University is among the leaders among higher educational institutions in Ukraine.
