Joint research at the University of Liverpool
Yevhen Palazhchenko is participating in the UK-Ukraine Twinning Project “Co-supervision Research Fellowship Program” at the University of Liverpool (UoL). Yevhen with his Ukrainian supervisor Vira Shendryk, Head Of the Information Technology Department, and co-supervisor Georg Meyer, Senior Lecturer at the University of Liverpool (Department of Experimental Psychology) are working on a collaborative project.
The first academic connections between the Department of Information Technology and researchers from the University of Liverpool were established in July 2023. Back then, it was an acquaintance and a search for common scientific interests. In the spring of 2024, an idea for a joint project was found and implementation began. In the fall of 2024, Yevhen received Twin Fellowships to work with Georg Meyer in the BRAIN & MIND Research Area at the Institute for Advanced Study Hanse-Wissenschaftskolleg, Germany. His research topic, “Better Learning in Extended Reality”, is a fundamental component of his PhD dissertation and aligns with the broader goal of improving educational methodologies through immersive technologies.
The current project “Virtual environment for learning and experimentation based on Digital Twin technology” project incorporates informational technologies and psychology aspects that facilitate the variety of results gained and their value for both departments. Yevhen works at the Immersive Lab of The Digital Innovation Facility centre in Liverpool. There, he has successfully developed a Digital Twin of the Sawyer robot and is now designing a virtual environment that enables seamless human-machine interaction. This project aims to enhance learning experiences through a Virtual World and improve human-robot collaboration technologies.
Here is what Yevhen says:
«Participation in this program allowed me to concentrate on my research. The modern equipment of the university combined with the incredible support of Liverpool colleagues opens up the opportunity to work on advanced projects in the field of Virtual Reality and Human-Machine Interaction. A special thank you to Sumy State University, the University of Liverpool, and everyone involved for the incredible opportunities and invaluable experience I have gained throughout this collaboration.»
