This question was at the heart of a study visit within the framework of the international project <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/almexproject.eu\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ALMEX<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2013 Alumni Management Excellence: Building University Capacity for Sustainable Graduate Engagement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The project aims to help universities build systematic and long-term engagement with alumni by integrating them into key areas of institutional development \u2014 from educational and career initiatives to innovation and partnership activities. It is about moving beyond formal communication toward creating an active alumni community that becomes a full-fledged part of university life.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">From March 16 to 20, 2026, delegations from partner universities, including Sumy State University, visited Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (Netherlands), where they explored European approaches to building sustainable and structured alumni engagement.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The SumDU delegation included Head of the Information Technologies Department, PhD in Technical Sciences, Associate Professor <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/anna-nenia-7a436083\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Anna Nenia<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">; Head of the International Cooperation Office, PhD in Pedagogical Sciences <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/alla-krasulia-12b59176?utm_source=share_via&amp;utm_content=profile&amp;utm_medium=member_ios\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alla Krasulia<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">; Head of General Administrative Support and International Protocol Group <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/in\/iryna-slabko-8a5a7429a?utm_source=share_via&amp;utm_content=profile&amp;utm_medium=member_ios\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Iryna Slabko; <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">and Head of the Practice and Employer Relations Department, PhD in Technical Sciences <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/job.sumdu.edu.ua\/about\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Alyona Yevdokymova.<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Together with project partners \u2014<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/ucu.edu.ua\/en\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ukrainian Catholic University<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ua.es\/en\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">University of Alicante<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.znu.edu.ua\/en\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Zaporizhzhia National University<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/nuwm.edu.ua\/en\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">National University of Water and Environmental Engineering<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">,<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sgh.waw.pl\/en\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Warsaw School of Economics<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and the<\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/naqa.gov.ua\/en\/\"> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">National Agency for Higher Education Quality Assurance<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2014 participants examined how <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/vu.nl\/en\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> develops effective alumni engagement models, from maintaining communication to actively involving graduates in educational, innovation, and entrepreneurial initiatives.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The program combined strategic discussions with practical experience. Participants explored the work of units responsible for communications and fundraising, visited innovative spaces such as VU StartHub, the Entrepreneurship Center, and The Demonstrator Lab, and focused on digital tools for alumni engagement, relationship management, and data protection.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An important part of the visit was a roundtable held on March 18, 2026, at the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/embassy-of-ukraine-in-the-kingdom-of-the-netherlands\/?lipi=urn%3Ali%3Apage%3Ad_flagship3_profile_view_base_recent_activity_content_view%3BS%2B88YM%2FdRz6GoyK0UYtc3g%3D%3D\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Embassy of Ukraine in the Kingdom of the Netherlands<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, with the support of the Ukrainian Institute in the Netherlands. The event brought together representatives of universities, diplomatic institutions, and the Ukrainian diaspora.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The discussion focused on the role of Ukrainian alumni abroad in the development of higher education in Ukraine \u2014 their involvement in supporting universities, mentoring, expanding professional networks, and promoting Ukrainian education internationally. Special attention was given to the idea of creating a global community of Ukrainian university alumni as a platform for long-term cooperation and new partnerships.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The study visit became an important milestone for the ALMEX consortium, enabling participants not only to learn from European experience but also to shape a practical vision for alumni community development. For SumDU, this is a step toward strengthening alumni engagement and building an open, active community that contributes to university development. This experience is particularly valuable for the Department of Information Technologies, as it opens new opportunities for collaboration with alumni, their involvement in the educational process, and
